A Newman Center is an Educational Institution that calls its students to take seriously their responsibility to minister - that is to place their personal and material resources at the service of others. Therefore, numerous opportunities for ministry are provided for our student community. Some of these opportunities are on-going volunteering opportunities; others are one-time events. The Newman Bulletin and the Sunday announcements are good sources of information about upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Here is a partial list of ongoing ministry opportunities at Newman:

LITURGICAL MINISTRY: Includes lectoring at Mass, ministering the Eucharist at Mass, being a sacristan, music ministry (see below), being an altar server, working on art and environment and serving on the liturgy committee.

FACILITIES AND GROUNDS: Each Semester we have a "clean-up day" to help beautify the Church. This semester it is scheduled for Saturday, December 3.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Teach children's religious education on Sunday mornings

SOCIAL JUSTICE: Includes feeding the Homeless, Habitat for Humanity and Travelers Aid

MUSIC MINISTRY at NEWMAN: Music is an essential part of Catholic worship. Music at the Newman Center is provided by choirs made up of students and other community members.  Five of the six Sunday Masses need musicians. Each year some of our music minister graduate and move on to the next phases of their lives - so we need constantly to replenish our music groups with fresh voices. If you sing and/or play an instrument come share your talents with Newman!
