Freshman Retreat

The freshman retreat is designed by upper classmen to help incoming students realize that the Newman Center can be a home away from home. Reflections and talks are given by other students who share some of their experiences of being a freshman. Some of the common concerns of new students are: leaving home, making new friends, balance of study and social, choosing majors, fitting in, dorm life.

This retreat puts new students in contact with other new students to make friends, and to provide a safe social outlet with people of similar faith background.

The retreat begins on a Friday evening usually around five and goes till Sunday around Noon.

With Ice breakers, story telling and creative prayer and small group sharing, students bond with each other and grow in their faith.

Food on all our retreats is excellent. The sleeping conditions vary from retreat center to retreat center. While it is most advantageous to have a sleeping bag some students just bring an inflatable mattress and the bedding from their beds. A list of what to bring is provided at the time of sign up. When students register we ask for a $10.00 deposit. Students carpool to the retreat site and their adventure begins.
